Joseph Kerski, Ph.D. — A Luminary in Geospatial Education

We are proud to present Dr. Joseph Kerski as our keynote speaker at the Elevations Geospatial Summit 2024. A geographer who is deeply committed to education and advocacy, Dr. Kerski has a distinguished career that spans over three decades across the nonprofit sector, government service, industry leadership, and academic instruction.

With a fervent belief in the transformative power of geography, Dr. Kerski has dedicated his life to the advancement of Geographic Information Sciences (GIS). His work leverages the potent combination of geography and technology to foster spatial thinking and education in diverse disciplines and at all levels of learning.

Dr. Kerski’s career is marked by his roles at prominent organizations such as the Association of American Geographers (AAG), National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE), University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), US Census Bureau, and the US Geological Survey (USGS). His industry experience at Esri and academic roles, including teaching at the University of Denver, highlight his multifaceted expertise.

An esteemed author, Dr. Kerski’s published works contribute significantly to the field. His texts, such as “Spatial Mathematics,” “The GIS Guide to Public Domain Data,” and “Interpreting Our World,” are foundational readings that bridge the gap between geospatial theory and practical application.
