Presenter’s Bio:
Michelle Wong has been working the GIS field for four plus years, first as a wildlife biologist performing spatial research across the U.S. and now currently at a private consulting firm. Her work consists of varying needs for clients ranging from small cities to international portfolios; primarily within environmental remediation and geotechnical engineering. Her primary focus when supporting any mission revolves around the end user’s experience and making technology “do the work” rather than it “being the work”.

Session Abstract:
It happens to all of us – we get lost as soon as Google Maps
stops the navigation narration. Once we exit our cars, it takes
longer to find the signs we need (if they exist) as our feet walk in
endless back- traces. Only large campuses have directional signs
to help newcomers find their way. Often times we might spy a
fire exit plan that has the detail or room numbers. Other times
we wander out from the elevator desperately hoping for some
arrows and numbers. What’s worse is if we don’t even know
what room number we need.
ArcGIS Indoors can be the solution for those lost souls wandering
the halls. With the era of Work From Home essentially deeming
front desk staff a rare sighting, having detailed maps of a space
can keep us from wasting time looking for the bathroom or
specific office.
Langan’s Digital Solutions team has created a demo of its two level New York office to demonstrate the power of this underutilized tool. Not only can you navigate using office or building
numbers, but with the cornerstone of ESRI-based attributable
fields, you can even navigate to a colleague you have only met via
Zoom (using a name search).
There are applications for university campuses (how do I find office
hours), medical buildings (a referral for whom but to where), emergency response, and
so many more instances that Langan is fulfilling for their clients.
