Session Abstract:

Who doesn’t enjoy a weekend in the woods at a free campsite on public land? But who enjoys the free site when it’s trashed?

As part of a pet project-turned-class project, I’ve set out on a mission to map and inventory every dispersed campsite in the Poudre Valley region of Larimer County, Colorado, with goals of sharing the data and findings with agencies like the USFS and Poudre Wilderness Volunteers.

Students in the CSU Geospatial Field Methods class designed a Survey 123 form to collect, analyze, and visualize data over two summers, 2022 and 2023, and we will continue this coming summer 2024.

How did we set it up, what have we surveyed so far, and what have we learned? Find out in this presentation!
