Session Time:

May 9, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM

Location:

Shively room

Session Abstract:

This session will look at the National Broadband Map and how one fiber and wireless provider prepares data for inclusion in the map.

Visionary Broadband provides internet service in Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and New Mexico. The GIS department pulls disparate datasets together, then merges and analyzes them using Safe Software’s Feature Manipulation Engine (FME). It’s a No/Low code ETL platform supporting over 400 data types.
Attendees will see integration of FCC data, in-house records, radio propagation SaaS, fiber design SaaS, and billing SaaS using APIs, conversions, and spatial analysis. Fun techniques such as “Place Based Reprojection,” “Cascading Clippers,” and the “Pie Slicer” will be demonstrated

This introduction to FME has something for beginner and advanced users alike. Inputs from CSV, JSON and Shape files will be normalized for spatial analysis, delivering outputs in multiple formats. Those outputs are used beyond the Broadband Map report to include marketing, FCC compliance and customer self-service.
